Gideon the Ninth

This piece is based on the Locked Tomb series of books, which I've fallen fully into over the last year. I wanted to do a character (Or characters as the case might be. More to come!) with descriptions and an idea of what they look like, but with a lot of room to do design work myself within that frame. I approached the project with the idea that it'd fit into an imaginary AAA third person Locked Tomb game.

So, here is Gideon Nav, ready to face the world with a vow of silence, a crooked smile and just so many pushups. Hope you enjoy!

Gideon's sword is based on one I found at the Danish National museum. I had initially done a much more fancy-looking one, but it didn't feel like it fit the character.

For the design I wanted to really lean into the slight anachronism that comes with the setting, so for the belt I wanted to give her a broad fantasy-style kidney belt, though closed with more modern military-style closures.

The boots were based on the boots of the French ranger corps.

For the knuckle knife gauntlets I wanted to play with a mixture of a medieval gauntlet and a fingerless motorcycle-style glove (for additional anachronism it closes with modern pull-toggles). The obsidian blades ended up looking pretty nasty!

The rapier was based on one sold at auction, which I referenced. I was fascinated by the unique wire-wrap, which I rebuilt in Substancee Designer.

For the face texture I wanted to support looks both with and without the face paint.
Hair groom is done in Xgen and uses the Metahumans spline hair material.

Gideon, while a buff sword-wielding one, is a teenager in the series, and I wanted to try and give her a young look under the paint (Slight spottiness included!)

I wanted to try and keep Gideon in the realm of 2 4k tiles, not including weapons.
